Today's Tutorial: Printing resist
Here's a very quick tutorial for a colourful background for cards, art journals or scrapbook pages.
I started with book paper, gel medium, stencils, a gelli plate, a brayer, gelatos (gelatos are creamy, water based paint sticks), baby wipes and paper towel.
1. Roll a thin layer of gel medium over your gelli plate and position stencil above it.
2. Put book paper on on top and smooth with your hands. Peel off and let dry.
3. At this point remove then stencil and pull another print with the reverse image. This often results in a much more "organic" print, but creates a fantastic textured effect. *This is the benefit of using the gelli plate. You get two pages from one application of gel medium, instead of just the one page you would get from painting directly over top of the stencil and paper.*
4. After the pages are dry, the real fun begins! Scribble lots of yummy gelato colour all over your design. Work in colour groups so the colours don't get muddy. My favourites are red, orange and yellow and blue and purple. Blend colours with a baby wipe, being careful not to rip paper. Alternate using baby wipes with paper towel for different effects. Have fun and experiment!
Here's few of my pages using various stencils (for the last page I rubbed in some Inka-gold to add some shimmer):

Today's Tutorial: Painting on metal
Metal elements are hot in Scrapbooking these days and I am addicted to painting them. My current favourite technique is to paint them a nice silvery colour with some blue and green patina style accents. It's super easy.
I like to use Distress Paint in Brushed pewter as a base coat (especially nice if your metal is too dark for your project). Then I let it dry, you can heat it with a heat too but keep it well above the metal as it will bubble and leave a bumpy texture. Next, I apply Glimmer Glaze in the colour "All That Jazz", it's nice brilliant blue and looks great over the metallic Distress paint. Finally a few drops of Glimmer Glaze in "Sea Kelp" provides a nice contrast, this colour is really dark so I usually add just a few drops and spread it with a dry brush. (Glimmer Glaze is a sticky, translucent enamelish paint, reminiscent of nail polish. Use with good ventilation.)
Here's a few examples of some I have done in the past: (click on image to it larger)

Ankles and such...
The ankle continues to heal, slowly. Meet my new BFF:
I bought this tensor brace last summer when I had a mild sprain ( I guess that makes this the fourth sprain, not the third.) At the time I didn't really need it but boy am I glad I have it now. I'm finding it's really helping with my mobility.
I'm STILL WAITING for a final diagnosis on my injury, tomorrow I'll be heading down to see my doctor to get some answers.
**Edited to add: Thanks to a fabulous Doctor today who went to bat for me, I finally have results. No fracture! Yay!!**
I have a new page up today. Thank goodness you can scrap with a sprained ankle, it's keeping me sane.

canvasgeddon part three and my new baby!
I made this canvas for Sid's room as a reminder for the school year. Just a little prospective for her to help her navigate the tricky world of grade four girls. Some random paper from my stash, thickers and some vellum for the butterfly "underwings".
And finally, as many of you know I work in jewellery store and these days the price of gold (and to a lesser extent silver) has skyrocketed. I found a stash of nearly a pound of silver from old unfinished jewellery, mistakes and ugly old pieces. So I sent it down to the smelters, took the cash and bought a DSLR...finally! Without further ado, meet my new baby, Ginger:

canvasgeddon part 1
The summer is flying by at a dizzying pace. I was lucky enough to have a few weeks off the month and spent some time with the princess herself playing tourist in our town, swimming , visiting friends and family and, of course, shopping.
I did no scrapbooking what-so-ever. I did however make a few cards and two canvases.
The first canvas is using Momenta products for the D-lite team this month. I started to make a little tutorial and quickly changed directions, so I present to you my half baked tutorial....lol. Here's the finished canvas:

I adhered the strips of patterned paper with gel medium and added gesso to soften the pattern. I wanted a soft landscape look. I used some flower rub ons and some cool new black metal birds (available at Michael's, you have to try them!) that I covered with blue Glimmer glaze.
Afterwards I painted on some turquoise and green acrylic pant. I sealed it with Liquitex Resin Sand medium to create an interesting texture and added some distress ink.
Here's the 411 on all the cool Momenta goodies I used:
Free to Be Me Paper Pad PA-2263
Design and print alphas ST-4516
Glitter rub-ons RO-1853
Sparrow Metal stickers (love these!) 17476
Happy Thursday and stay tuned for Canvasgeddon part 2 coming soon!
