Batik Eggs Over Easy

Forgive the pun, I couldn't help myself. Sid and I (and TX to the best of his abilities) made these the other day. It was easy peasy and lots of fun. Here's what we did:
1. Poke holes in both ends of the eggs with a tack. Enlarge the holes by chipping the shell a wee bit with the tack.I made one hole bigger than the other so all the goop can slide out easier.

2. Cover the smaller hole
with your mouth making a seal and blow out the white and yolk. (This is the fun part...not).

3. Rinse the egg in water and blow out excess water.

4. Allow eggs to dry.

5. I prepared the dye to the instructions on the package and added vinegar, to make the dye extra bright.

6. Colour your egg in the lightest dye first. You will need to hold them under the liquid with the dipper or spoon.

7. After the egg is dry, drip wax from a candle over the egg. You can hold the egg with a skewer so you don't burn your fingers.

8. After the wax is cooled dip your egg in the second colour. You can keep going if you like with increasingly darker colours but since I was working with a four year old we stopped at two colours for my sanity.

9. When you're done wrap the egg in a paper towel and stick it in the microwave for 10 seconds. The egg will be hot so be careful. Rub with egg with paper towel so the melted wax gives it a nice sheen.

Tea for two times two

Sidney and I hosted her friend Laura and her lovely Mom Lisa for a tea party this week. The girls were in pre-school together last year and are so much a like. We had a great time drinking tea, eating sweets and dressing up.

A few new digi...

I actually bought a digital kit! Gasp! The cheapskate in my gave in to the new digi kit at Scrap in Style. It's really fun, and pretty cheap. Just don't tell Sean! Lol. I guess with 6 gb of free stuff, one kit's not so bad.

High Tea

Miss Manners enjoyed her first taste of High Tea. She was so well behaved, she actually corrected me on my manners.

unexpected beauty

A warm beam on a cold day made it's way through a vase of water and on to the petals of my hyacinth. Perfect mid-winter pick me up.

Not sure if I like it or not but it looks nice in the kitchen!

Some how I forgot to take any pictures yesterday. Duh. We also had a little shopping adventure to Micheal's, cause I really need more stuff...not.

Sid and Maddie enjoyed a nice brunch today. It's so cute to see Sid and her best buddy together. Sigh, I miss the Madster.
